Peptides are Nature’s Switches

Peptides are fundamental components of cells that carry out a whole array of important biological functions. Peptides are used to control or to trigger actions in our cells. Some act as hormones, switching on or off certain biological processes. Others can have and antiviral or anticancer effects. In patients with chronic disease, peptide can be used to switch on lost cells functions or to insert information into the body to trigger a therapeutic reaction.

Peptide Vaccines and Cancer

Synthetic peptide vaccines can be individually synthesized into therapeutic cancer vaccines. In this case, peptides from tumor-associated antigens are used to trigger effective anti-tumor immune response. This therapy has been shown to be a helpful adjunct in cancer treatment. Genetic information from a patient, as well as tumor material are helpful in designing an individualized anti-cancer peptide vaccine.

Peptides and Chronic Disease

Not only cancer patients can benefit from individualized peptide vaccines. Peptides can be utilized to help control inflammation, support neurological function, support antimicrobial processes in the body and to reduce pain. While the function of many peptides is already researched and well known, genetic sequencing may also be helpful in designing the individualized combination of peptides.
