How long would you go without food if it meant reversing disease?

Would you stop eating for 24 hours, 48 Hours, or even over a week if it could potentially slow your aging?

What if it gave you a better chance at beating cancer, treating lyme disease, or healing from a plethora of autoimmune disorders?

New research suggests that going without food for extended periods of time can have profound benefits on your health.

Commonly known as fasting, this intentional and controlled diet change is often associated with hunger pangs, uncomfortable days, and trying everything you can to not raid the fridge, but don’t let the term “fasting” scare you. This process can possibly increase your energy levels, slow the hard stresses on your body, boost your body’s natural healing process, give you more energy, reduce fat and finally help you feel like yourself again.

The hard part is always how you do it, which is why we explored a unique, scientifically developed fasting technique with all the benefits of fasting, including healing chronic disease, without making you feel like you’re starving. First though, it’s good to understand how fasting affects your body and mind.

What is Fasting?

Fasting is the reduction of some or all food or drink for a specific period of time to cleanse, detox and maximize the functions of the body.

Fasting is an effective anti-aging strategy and dietary detox, which allows your body to promote cellular protection, regeneration and rejuvenation. It has been associated with deceleration or prevention of most chronic degenerative and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Although prolonged fasting can cause rapid weight loss benefits, it is primarily used to instigate prolonged health benefits.

Benefits of Fasting

The health benefits of fasting have been known for a long time. Fasting improves a sustainable lifestyle of a healthy diet and allows for possible mood enhancement, affecting hormone levels, and decreasing signals associated with aging, along with many other benefits, including:

  • Mental clarity and increased concentration
  • Increased energy
  • Reversed insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
  • Lower levels in blood sugar and cholesterol
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Fat loss
  • Digestive system rest

Fasting also stimulates autophagy, which is the body’s way of detoxing by removing damaged cells and regenerating new ones. This process is essentially a form of self-cannibalism inside your body, which also increases the human lifespan.

Studies have shown that fasting activates stem cells, and reduces autoimmune cells and CRP (known as the inflammation marker), which is a significant benefit for autoimmune disease patients.

Fasting Timeline

Once you start fasting, you will experience a variety of effects, both good and bad, so it’s good to know what to expect. During this process your body’s systems are working for you, even though it might not feel like it when you experience hunger pangs or mood changes. Here’s what you can expect.

12 – 48 Hours

This is the most challenging time, when your body starts to feel hunger pangs and has increased irritability. You will feel like you have little energy, but your body is essentially saving the battery power you have left, but energy will return to the body after this initial phase. During this stage fat in the blood starts to be metabolized for energy, improving the heart, and your liver undergoes gluconeogenesis, a process in which it converts non-carbohydrates into glucose for energy.

3 – 7 Days

This critical stage of fasting is called ketosis, when your body begins burning stored fat as a primary energy source. During this time you might stop feeling hungry or tired, notice changes in physical appearance, and start losing weight, while you simultaneously detox the body through fat burning.

1 – 2 Weeks

During this time, the culmination of these stages become a catalyst for healing as your digestive system rests from its daily workload and exposure to toxins. At this point your body fully adjusts to fasting, creating dramatic elevations in mood, clear mindedness and increased energy levels.

16 Days and Onward

A balance sets in as your body fully acclimates to this new way of life, although not many people venture into prolonged fasts of this duration (and should only do so with a doctor). Fasting at this point is more of a personal growth trial with the added benefits of extended healing and optimized cleansing processes.

Challenges of Fasting

Fasting is not all sunshine and roses though, which is why you have probably avoided fasting in the past. There’s no doubt that fasting provides a wide variety of benefits, however, if you aren’t careful and don’t regulate it properly, fasting can be more challenging than necessary.

Some challenges include:

  • Feelings of hunger
  • Setting unrealistic goals when your body isn’t used to an absence of food
  • Boredom
  • Irritability and emotions
  • Low energy and brain fuzz in the beginning

Although the waves of hunger can be difficult to bear, once they pass, your mind is clearer and dozens of benefits start to unfold — but not all fasting is the same, and fasting can be ineffective in the long-term if proper regimens are not followed.

So, if fasting seems impossible, one way to make it easier is through the fasting mimicking diet, which allows you to feel like you’re eating while the body thinks it isn’t, giving you the benefits of prolonged fasting without many of the challenges.

However, you should never begin a prolonged fasting regimen without either speaking to your doctor or getting professional advice.

Fasting Mimicking Diet vs. Common Fasting Techniques

Although you may be familiar with fasting, there are differences between common fasting and the Fasting Mimicking Diet.

Some of the main differences between common fasts and FMD include:

The fasting mimicking diet was developed by Valter Longo and his team at the USC’s Longevity Institute, to produce the same health benefits as water fasting, while making it safer and easier to comply with the restrictions.

Unlike intermittent fasting, the ProLon Fasting Mimicking Diet® (FMD®) gives you all the benefits of a fast while providing essential nutrients to fuel energy levels in the body.

Even at this stage, the benefits of FMD are far-reaching.

How does FMD® work?

FMD® provides the body with a scientifically developed combination of micro and macro-nutrients designed to keep the body nourished while going through the rejuvenating process of the fasting state.

The fasting mimicking diet program is a 5 day regimen of plant-based diet, scientifically designed  to attain fasting-like effects while providing nourishment (vitamins, minerals etc.) to minimize the burden of fasting, while not triggering key pro-aging pathways, such as the growth hormone and insulin and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). Normal diets often activate these pathways, sending signals to that body that accelerates the growth hormone pathways, which also speed aging and block regeneration/rejuvenation.

The meals are low-sugar, low-protein, and low in calories and designed so that your body doesn’t recognize the food and remains in a fasting mode.

The diet is comprised of low-protein, low-carbohydrate, and high good fat ingredients to help the body protect and repair itself naturally. These meals include energy bars, soups, a variety of snacks, drinks and supplements, usually consist of fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate and herbal teas.

The fasting mimicking diet lowers inflammation and inflammatory diseases, along with reducing risk factors for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

This fasting type essentially stops us from aging for 5 days and works against risk factors for chronic disease. Stem cell-based rejuvenation continues for up to 5 days once you complete the ProLon Fasting Mimicking Diet and return to your regular healthy meal plan.

No serious adverse effects were reported with this form of diet either, according to prolonged fasting studies.

FMD can be included in your monthly regimen for one week per month for three consecutive months. A one-month pause is recommended, followed by another round of three months, making the FMD diet a part of your life for 9 months out of the year. The ProLon® Fasting Mimicking Diet is the only scientifically developed and clinically proven diet that is patented for the anti-aging effects of the stem cell-based renewal it activates in the body.

FMD Integrated into Chronic Disease Treatments

Since FMD promotes multi-system regeneration, enhanced cognitive performance and healthspan, Infusio recommends it for all patients that go through an Infusio treatment protocol for chronic degenerative disease.

Recommendations include using FMD one week before treatment and for one week out of each month for the following 3 months to greatly increase your treatment success with FMD’s benefits, such as anti-inflammation, auto-immune cell reduction and increased circulation of stem cells. The benefits of FMD follows Infusio’s belief in the benefits of cell therapy treating the body at a foundational level and foundational medicine overall.
